Some unpleasant nightmares
for a Turkish admiral: a LNG
ship or oil tanker explodes or is
blown up; a nuclear weapon
being shipped across the Black
Sea accidentally detonates - or
terrorists intentionally trigger a
such a bomb. None of these
remotely compare to the energy
released by an earthquake.
Shown at left is a recent photo
of the Qiantang river tidal bore.
Even with state of the art buoys
the warning time for a Black
Sea events would be less than
30 minutes. For the Sea of
Marmara, Eastern
Mediterranean  and the Aegean
Sea tsunami waves would likely
arrive minutes after the
warning. If straits act like tidal
bores civilian and military ships
have no chance.
